I have no defense for that. Life has been busy, and I have not been in the blogosphere as much as I should be. I will tell you that I will try to do better. Hopefully I haven't lost y'all completely. That being said, this month is pretty special to me.

Three years ago in May 2007, my life (as well as my whole family's) changed forever. For certain reasons, my mother could no longer watch our three children while we were at work . As luck would have it, a lady that I knew from church had some openings in her daycare. The first day when I went to pick them up, I was nervous. Were they nice to the other kids? Did they fit in with them? They were all under five, and had never been in a daycare setting. I did not expect what came next.

When I walked through the door, the daycare provider said she had some things she wanted to discuss with me. Uh-oh, I thought. Who got in trouble? We sat at her table, and this is the one-sided conversation we had.

"I noticed a few things about your daughter today. She seemed very nervous, and spent the first half of the day flapping her hands and walking on her tip-toes. She kept repeating the dialogue of kids cartoons over and over. My daughter is a special education teacher, and I called and discussed this with her. I think your daughter maybe Autistic."

What do you say when someone says this to you? I don't know. I don't remember much about the rest of our talk. I came home and immediately got on the computer. What is Autism, anyway? I knew next to nothing. Someone said Autism, the only reference I had was Rainman. I spent the next few hours going through the signs or markers of Autism. No, she can't have Autism. But the more I read, the more I saw the things that my daughter did throughout the day. Telling her Dad was another hurdle. You can't tell a Daddy that something could be wrong with their princess without some resistance and denial.

It took several months and lots of testing before we found out that, yes, our daughter does have Autism. She is very high functioning, and three years later, it would be difficult for most people to walk into her classroom and say, "Yep, that's the child that is Autistic." But it was, and will continue to be a struggle. Socialization is her big issue (as it is with almost all children with Autism). She is our joy, our sunshine, our princess. And she is perfect, just as she is!

I cry when I tell anyone this story about our journey with Autism. It was scary for the first few months, and especially the first week. I worried so much about our daughter's future. What would having Autism mean for her? My question for anyone with any "expertise" was always,"Will she be able to grow up, and be whatever she wants to be?" I know that they can't see into the future, but I wanted reassurance. I know now that there are so many people that have one form of Autism or another, and they have done just fine. Bill Gates, anyone?

I tell you our story because I want everyone to know about Autism. Chances are you know someone with Autism. Just know that they are:

Going For Gold, Honoring Real Heroes

It is an exciting time for USA hockey. The semi-final game went very well today, as the boys took care of Finland 6-1. As I write this, we are waiting to see who we face in the gold medal game- Canada or Slovakia. It matters not, one way or the other. The USA has to beat whichever team shows up on Sunday.

If anyone is looking for another reason to cheer on Team USA, I think I have found it here. Team USA GM has the right idea, and my favorite quote from him says it all:

"The real heroes in America don't wear hockey uniforms, they wear police uniforms, they wear camo, they wear fire uniforms, and we want our players to understand that what we do is small potatoes compared to what those people do." -- Brian Burke

It is nice and refreshing to see that the true heroes in our country are being shown respect, and being included by our hockey team in their quest for gold. Go USA!!!

Another One "Bayh"tes The Dust

It is amazing how suddenly the Democrats are seeing the writing on the wall. Evan Bayh is (supposedly) a centrist Democrat that has just announced he will not run for re-election. In his statement he said, "My decision should not be interpreted for more than it is, a very difficult, deeply personal one. I am an executive at heart. I value my independence. I am not motivated by strident partisanship or ideology."

I call bovine scat. As far as I could tell, this man had his head (and his vote) so far up Obama and Pelosi's backside that he couldn't tell if it was day or night. I say good riddance to bad rubbish!!

This gives the Republicans even more reason to redouble their efforts in November. All I ask of them is to not sit back and take anything for granted. I remember watching the 'Miracle on Ice' when I was little. That was my first real exposure to the good 'ol hockey game (it's the best game you can name). I am not a big advocate of sending our professional hockey players to the Olympics because we can never have a true 'miracle on ice' again. In 1980 we sent our young bucks up against the world's best talent, and they won! They showed the world what it means to work hard and believe in yourself, even when everyone else has written you off.

That being said, I will still cheer on the Americans in Vancouver. They have a lot of talent, and hopefully will bring home the gold this year! They have a great goaltender in Ryan Miller. He is the goalie for the Buffalo Sabres, by way of Michigan State University (Go Spartans!!).

We will hopefully see a little Miller Magic in Vancouver

Miller recently revealed the mask that he will wear in Vancouver. He wanted the mask to be an original. "You know searching out stuff, some symbols of America that most people probably haven't used on a mask before. You know Uncle Sam has shown up but I've never seen that painting of him from World War II used. Obviously the eagle has been used but we thought it would be cool to put little elements like, don't tread on me, and Uncle Sam has a few tattoos, just a little different.''

The mask was designed by Warwick Mask & Equipment, Inc. in Port Huron, Michigan. The East Lansing native has been getting his masks there since he was a teenager. The mask also has a couple of small clovers on the side, as a nod to Jim Craig's mask from the 1980 Olympics.

So get ready, everyone, because it looks like Uncle Sam isn't gonna back down from anyone!! Go USA!!!

Exercising My Second Amendment Right

I prefer the method on the right!!

If I do not one more thing this weekend, it will be just fine. I feel pretty accomplished and proud of myself. Today I took the first step toward obtaining my concealed carry permit. I passed the state mandated course. Now I just need to send the county and the state AG some money, get fingerprinted, have a background check done, and then it is pretty much a done deal.

I was really looking forward to the class, and enjoyed it immensely. The instructor is someone that I know from work, and he made the day educational, but also entertaining. He is very good at what he does, because there were several people in the class that had a limited exposure to firearms prior to this class, and he made them feel comfortable and at ease throughout the process.

The classroom portion of the class was very commonsense stuff. One of the most important items covered was the safety issues surrounding concealed carry. We also had the opportunity to try out different guns (revolvers as well as semi-autos) to see what one we felt the most comfortable using. A portion of the time was spent discussing the different holsters available for concealed carry. The multiple choice test consisted of twenty-five questions, all things that were covered at least once during the approximately 6 1/2 hours spent on the material. And, Yaaayy- I passed!!

Then it was on to the range to prove we could actually hit a target. I will admit I was a tad nervous about this portion of the day. The requirements are 5 rounds from 3 yards one-handed, 10 rounds from 7 yards with both hands, and 10 rounds from 10 yards with both hands. In order to qualify you have to have 18 of the 25 rounds in the scoring area (bowling pin shaped area, approximately the size of the torso) Last week I practiced the requirements three different times and had only one round outside the qualifying area. Today I had three outside the area. Like I said, I was nervous. And don't tell my husband, but when he is standing behind me criticizing, ahem, I mean critiquing me, I do tend to shoot better! Anyway, I passed the shooting portion of the day, also, so on to the application and background check!!

What the Teleprompter Should Say, But Won't

Okay, it may say some of this, but will it really mean it or follow through? The darn teleprompter made so many promises during the presidential election that it has already given up on. Need an example? Health care. Where is the open debate, that was supposed to be televised on C-SPAN? When has the TIC (teleprompter-in-chief) or his lackeys (Pelosi and Reid)ever really allowed the Republicans in on any meaningful discussions about health care reform? Oh, well. Here it goes-

1.) The military has this administration's unwavering support. Whatever you may need to succeed, consider it yours. I will not delay in providing resources or strategy for Iraq and Afghanistan, as I know this will lead to unnecessary losses. We will succeed, and our troops will return home when their mission is finished. We have faith in their abilities- may God bless them. (TIC may say some of these things, but will there be follow through?)

2.) The economy is a top priority. I have spent too much time and too much of the taxpayers money trying to "save" certain companies and industries. Capitalism is a wonderful thing. Failure for some companies may be the only answer. The market will bear out and the cream will rise to the top.

3.) Raising taxes will not solve anyone's problems. If taxes are levied on business, they will either have to pass it on to the consumer, or close their doors. If we increase taxes on the citizens of this nation, they will tighten their purse strings and slow the economy even further.

4.) The equations are really simple:

Lower taxes (flat tax?) = more jobs = health care for more Americans.

Lower taxes = more money for consumers discretionary spending = improved economy for all, businesses, those seeking employment, and shareholders alike.

Should I Stay...

A little fun for my first blog back. The new threat to our fair globe is.... man's best friend. You got it- more threatening than the big, bad SUV's that used to run over them. Take a gander at this article from Yahoo:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20091220/sc_afp/lifestyleclimatewarminganimalsfood

They even asked some enviro-wacko to calculate pets' eco-pawprint. I am not kidding. Just when I thought the loons couldn't get any loonier, they go and prove me wrong. What is the solution (according to those same loons)? Make sure your pet is dual purpose. You know, you could serve the cute little bunny you gave your kids for Easter as your 4th of July main course.

Yeah...and the kids, too.

I am sure we will all soon be able to buy carbon pawprint offsets. I am also sure that somehow , some way, Al Gore will rake in the dough from that scam. I don't know about you, but now I want at least three more animals just because of this article.

So if you don't hear from me soon, I am probably at the local Humane Society picking out my kids and dog Molly a few new siblings!!

Enrage an enviro-nut, take me home!!!

Four Year Old Steals Neighbor's Christmas Presents While Drinking a Beer

I saw this on Drudge today, and it just leaves me speechless. We call this 'Scuba Stephanie'. If you have seen 'Big Daddy', you understand.

I just spent a terrific Thanksgiving weekend with the family in St. Louis. Our main objective on the trip was to see a wonderful hockey game (we did- Detroit won 4-3 in a shootout), but we also planned in some time for shopping in St. Charles, dinner at Modesto (incredible Tapas restaurant), and the most important agenda item for the kids---swimming at the hotel.

I can always count on my husband for funny vacation witticisms. He can turn any song into something that is always hilarious, sure to keep you awake during the monotony of driving mile after mile. I have often told him he should do stand up. He would be great at that. What I am learning now is that my seven year old daughter not only looks like my husband, she has inherited his comedy gene.

We left our hotel on Sunday morning, ready to hit the (long) road home. Said hotel provides a more than ample breakfast offering. If you leave there hungry, it is no ones fault but your own. About thirty minutes after being on the road, my daughter says she is hungry. Her Dad and I both tell her it will be a while before we stop to eat since we just ate breakfast. She is not happy, and pops out with"I am the goddess of give me something!" I know-- it sounds like I am raising a Liberal, right? She isn't a Lib, she was just being funny. When my husband and I laughed at her line, she was happy as could be.

That became our motto this vacation. Daughter and husband found many ways to freshen it up all the way home. She was hungry again later in the day and was the 'goddess of eating'. Later she wanted a light turned on so she could read her book and became 'goddess of turn a light on'. Dad eventually lost his sense of humor (six hours in a van with a seven, five, and four year old), so he declared he was the 'god of grouch and doom'. I snickered at that, which caused him to see the humor in what he said. And I will say that everyone was pretty quiet the rest of the way home.

Happy Thanksgiving from President Reagan ( and me, too)!!

I am sorry that I cannot post as often as others here on Blogger, but alas, my three kids(seven, five, and four), husband, and a full time job just won't allow it. He is a former ACLU leader. He was a fundraiser for ACORN. Those two items raise flags for me, but are possibly not cause enough for others to be concerned. Okay, I understand.

Let's hear some of this justices pearls of wisdom.

"Part of our job here as judges is to write a series of footnotes to the Constitution. We all do that every year in cases large and small."

"A judge needs to empathize with all parties in the case — plaintiff and defendant, crime victim and accused defendant — so that the judge can better understand how the parties came to be before the court and how legal rules affect those parties and others in similar situations."

He is an activist judge who believes laws can be made from the bench, that judges keep adding "footnotes" to the Constitution. Huh? And here I thought the Founders did a pretty good job. Silly me, I thought Congress was the only branch of the government that could make law(hence the term Legislative Branch).

Here we go, America! You didn't think it would do much harm, your voting for Obama. Now you know the truth. First Sotomayor, now Hamilton. Another empathetic judge. We have three more years of this.

And shame on the Republicans named above. You are there at the behest of your constituents. Your crumbling, spineless actions today may very well be the start of your political downfall. Do not think that just because you have an (R) behind your name, that means you will be supported in your re-election bids. We need members of Congress that want to serve their constituents, not their own self-serving agendas.

We need more men (and women) like these!!!

So Now They Fact Check

From the AP dated Saturday November 14, comes this headline: FACT CHECK: Palin's Book Goes Rogue on Some Facts. I am not writing this to debate whether Sarah is right or the AP is right. Did he really earn the medals and honors he received, or did he write himself up in order to get home? It took the Swift Boat Veterans, doing the AP's job, for the truth to come out. Then the media wanted to rip apart their recollection of what happened in Vietnam.

Damn those pesky facts

I also don't remember the AP being all up in arms about Dan Rather rushing a story about George Bush's National Guard record without checking the facts. Everyone was more than willing for that story to be true. When it all came crashing down around their heads, well, that couldn't have been Dan's fault. He was duped by someone passing off faked documents. In my opinion, his butt was in a rush to make sure Mister "reporting for duty" Kerry got elected.

And let's not forget Al Gore. Where would we be without him? According to Mr. Personality himself, Love Story was written about him and Tipper. On top of that doozie, he invented the internet. Wow!! I will never question global warming again. This man is a genius!

The whole point of this, I guess, is that the AP and all of the MSM, are selective fact checkers. If the person in question fits in with their world views and agendas, then it's hands off. There are many more examples of this (don't get me started on Hill and Bill, or Maobama). I think they are genuinely afraid of the popularity and down to earth style of Sarah Palin. She is a conservative female that loves her country, loves her family, and is not afraid to stand up for either one.

Go get 'em Sarah!! We here at Me, Un-American, are behind you all the way!!!

Captain Cup Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Hockey Stud

What I wouldn't give to be in Toronto tomorrow. It is going to be a special night for Red Wings fans everywhere. Sure, Luc Robitaille and Brett Hull spent a few years as Red Wings, and they will be inducted also, but the star of the evening will surely be #19, Steve Yzerman.

Yzerman is the epitome of class. There were times during his career that fans questioned whether he was the one that could bring the Cup back to Detroit. He felt the burden for many years. When Scotty Bowman became the coach of the RedWings, he asked Yzerman to be more responsible defensively. Yzerman did not complain, even though he was a prolific scorer. How did he respond, you ask? By winning the Selke Trophy as best defensive forward. He always left everything out on the ice. He gave his all, every shift, and as Captain expected the same from his teammates.

Yzerman did bring the Cup back to Detroit, not once, not twice, but three times. He is Captain Cup. Stevie spent all 22 years of his career in Hockeytown. When you ask a Red Wings fan about their favorite play ever, most times it will be a play Yzerman made. My personal favorite is his double overtime goal in the 1996 playoffs against St. Louis. The man usually was cool as cucumber, but after that goal..... he looked like a ten year old playing the game he loved. It was so great to see his emotion, to see his passion for the game.

My favorite picture of Yzerman with the Cup(2002). What a great family man.

Yzerman was the best, and was the complete package. Talent, heart, class, leadership, sportsmanship. I have no problem with my children, or anyone's for that matter, following his example.

Thank you, Steve. Our children have finally gotten to a somewhat manageable age, meaning they pay attention and do what they are told for five minutes (okay, maybe four and a half), then you must gently remind them again to pay attention. A vast improvement from last year when the time limit was about sixty seconds. With the improved attention spans of the kiddos and two adults to control mayhem should it occur, we headed out for adventure.

We found it at a trap range near our sometimes tolerable fair city. We used to enjoy shooting B.K. (before kids), and I was looking forward to getting back at it. I grew up in a household where I knew that my Dad owned a gun, but I never knew where it was, and he never taught me how to use it. My husband taught me to shoot at the ripe old age of nineteen, while we were dating. He did a great job, too, as I used to out-shoot him regularly (well, at least once in awhile), sometimes with his own gun.

I was a bit nervous when I first went up to shoot, as it had been at least three or four years since I had been out. The range has voice activated pull, which was really nice. That meant my husband could easily count my few hits and many misses, while also keeping track of the kids. The first round of twenty-five, I hit a whopping eight with my 20-gauge (pheasants need not worry about me-yet). J Summ hit seventeen with his 12-gauge. In the second round, I broke double digits (11) with hubby's 12-gauge. He hit sixteen with my shotgun. My daughter enjoyed watching us so much that her comment as we finished was, "Okay, Momma, now it's my turn!" We had to explain to her that we would gladly let her try when she was older (she is currently seven).

I tested this theory. Turns out it's true.

We stopped on the way into the office to watch a group of men shoot skeet. It looks like a lot of fun, but I know it is not for me. Those clay pigeons flat boogie out of the houses. I bet I couldn't track half of them as they flew out. Wow!!

When we went into the office to pay, it was the usual testosterone-filled gun club atmosphere. One of the old coots asked, "So, you gonna teach them boys to shoot?" My reply was, "Yes, and the girl, too!" None of our kids are old enough to learn yet, but they already understand that guns are tools, not toys. We are both looking forward to teaching them how to shoot, when they are older. For now they think it is just as fun to cheer us on when we actually hit a clay pigeon.

The family outing was a success, and we plan on making the range at least two times a month. Then those pheasant better look out!

Build It and They Will Come....

Yes, I am posting this late, but you know what they say. The statue (seen above), is okay, I suppose. I firmly believe that had they changed a few things here and there, and added a few attractions, it would be a great vacation destination. It would also be more historically accurate.

1. I think they should have gone with a symbol more befitting our 42nd president. A couple of quotes really struck me as ironic.

"The history is clear: For decades rising health care costs have unleashed havoc on families, businesses and the economy. And for decades, whenever we have tried to reform the system, the insurance companies have done everything in their considerable power to stop us."

Okay, exactly who is this we? Dear Leader, you have only been in Washington (including as a Senator) for four years, which last time I checked is nowhere near decades. And when you were a Senator, health care wasn't even on your radar. You were much more interested in,and spent more time, running for President than anything else.

Obama said he would not abide "those who would bend the truth or break it to score political points and stop our progress as a country." He accused the industry of "filling the airwaves with deceptive and dishonest ads," sending money and lobbyists to Capitol Hill and paying for studies "designed to mislead the American people."

You are the chief truth breaker to score political points. And you do not want to just stop our progress as a country, you want to completely overhaul our country and turn into something none of our Founders ever wanted. Why else would you surround yourself with Communists (Van Jones), and those that love Mao (Anita Dunn), and wait... you idolize Saul Alinsky, right?

Bend the truth... Would that include having doctors that contributed to your campaign show up at the Rose Garden to bolster support for health care reform? What exactly did you have to promise them to get them there? Or planting a question from a campaign worker's daughter during your health care town hall meeting? This is controlling information, making sure the question covers some of your talking points. You even lied when you said you weren't stacking the deck. What do you call that, random chance?

You told the far left what they wanted to hear in the primaries to get the nomination. To be fair, you didn't have to change your views to do so. You were known as the most liberal senator in congress (shown through your voting record). Then you changed your tune in the general election, sometimes from day to day, according to your audience on the campaign trail. You are the king of deceptive and dishonest. You bend the truth constantly to promote your agenda. You also ignore vital information if it does not support said agenda. One example of this is the Congressional Budget Office putting the kibosh on the 1,100 page health care bill (HR3200), saying it would increase the deficit exponentially.

Maobama, if you want to see deceptive and dishonest, you need to look no further than the closest mirror.

Autistic Cub Scout Saves Teacher's Life

Finally... a story on ABC News that I really like. Then came allegations of oral and anal sex, according to court records.

Mobile, Alabama, where Mr Thomas's trial will start today (file photo)

Noting that each of the alleged victims is black, Patterson says jail checkout records back up inmates' claims about trips to Thomas' private office, and other inmates spotted marks after paddlings.

There also is other evidence, according to court records, including one inmate's seminal fluid on the office carpet.

The inmates also were able to describe in detail Thomas' unmarked windowless office.

Thomas stepped down from the bench in 2007 after the allegations of paddling surfaced and just ahead of a judicial ethics trial that could have forced him out of office.

He was indicted on the more-serious charges this past spring by a Mobile County grand jury. If convicted of the most serious charges - sodomy and kidnapping - he faces from 20 years to life in prison.

The oldest incident in the charges dates to 1999, his first year as a circuit judge.

The first public claim against Thomas surfaced in lawsuits filed by an inmate in 2001 in Mobile circuit court and in federal court that claimed the judge offered to help him with his case in return for sex.

Both lawsuits were dismissed, and Thomas' reputation remained unblemished.

Retired Mobile County Circuit Judge Braxton Kittrell said people thought Thomas' personal interest in the defendants was a positive.

'Everyone thought he had a lot of concern for people who got into criminal difficulty. All of this was a surprise to everyone,' he said.

The case has shocked Thomas' friends and former colleagues.

'I've always had the highest regard for him. The allegations were a complete surprise to me and everyone else who knew him,' said Bob Edington, a prominent Mobile attorney and former Democratic state senator.

Prosecutors say they have 15 current and former male inmates lined up to testify in a trial that could take several weeks.

Thomas grew up in Mobile and returned home after law school at Florida State University to become an assistant district attorney.

At the time, the majority white county had no black judges, and local officials were concerned that a federal judge might end countywide elections for judges.

Local Democrats and lawyers recruited Thomas, and they got a Republican governor to appoint him to a vacancy in 1990. Thomas later won election to a full term.

He handled lower level cases as a district judge, but he moved up to a county circuit judgeship in 1999 and started handling the most serious crimes, including murder.

In 1997, Alabama's presidential advisory committee recommended President Bill Clinton appoint Thomas as the first black federal judge in the southern district of Alabama.

The nomination was never acted on after Thomas failed to get the American Bar Association's top rating and amid some squabbling within the party.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Now a few thoughts from me:

Yes, I know that you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but it doesn't look good. This man could be the perfect 'Prison/Rehabilitation Czar'. He would be very enthusiastic about reducing prison population, which is something Democrats would be thrilled with. "Excuse me inmate, but would you be interested in time off for bad behavior?"

And why did I have to read about this story in a foreign paper? Mark Foley sent some e-mails (not saying what he did was right), and it was all over the MSM, but nothing about this story?

I predict he will be pardoned soon after any conviction by BHO, and then named the Prison/Rehabilitation Czar, bypassing all Congressional confirmation hearings. The "good" news is he should be able to work with Kevin Jennings, the Safe Schools Czar pretty easily. There is a shared office you wouldn't want to be sent to. Anybody see the potential for a spike in male teen suicide rates in schools when young boys are told to visit Kevin and Henry for chewing gum in class?

At Last!!!

These poor, delusional, Lions fans...if the government took over, the streak would last until 2050.

I know most of ya couldn't care less, and I can't say that I blame ya, but.....

The streak ends at 19. The Lions beat the Redskins today 19-14. I am not delusional. The Lions still have a loooong way to go before they are good enough to even whisper about playoff chances. Next year? Maybe, but probably more like two or three years down the road. Their last win was in December 2007, so for now one win will do (but please feel free to win some more this year, guys, if you can)!!

Oh, yeah, and I'm really There are corrupt politicians (Kwame, anyone?), a sad sack football team that might not be able to beat a junior high squad, a socialized auto industry (except the company run by the owners of the aforementioned football team), budget problems, a failing school system, and a plethora of violent crimes. And as if there needs to be more, Children's Health magazine has an article out now called "The 100 Best (and Worst) Places to Raise a Family." Guess which city ranked 100? But, you know what? I still love the place. Let me count the ways.

1) You can't begin this list without the Detroit Red Wings. Yes, they lost in the Finals to Pittsburgh. But they are a bright spot in this city nonetheless. Detroit can always count on this team to compete year in and year out. Mr. Hockey (Gordie Howe), Captain Cup (Stevie Yzerman), Terrible Ted Lindsey, Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Osgood. Great players, great teams, and a winning tradition. They don't call it Hockeytown for nothing!

2) Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, Kid Rock, Motown. Plenty of great music has made it's way out of Detroit. Chances are you like at least some of these artists, also.

3) Detroit Tigers. Three games up in the AL Central. Their owner Mike Ilitch, also owns the Red Wings. The man treats his players very well, and fosters an environment that lends itself to success. There may not be a lot of good news in Detroit, but the Tigers are a lot of what is good in town right now.

4)Detroit Pistons. Big Ben is back and the Pistons will be a young, hungry team.

5) Detroit Lions. I know they stink right now, but you have to be a fan through thick and thin. Right now it is VERY thin. Is Matthew Stafford the answer? Too early to tell, but he needs A LOT of help around him. "Forward Down the Field".

6) Better Made Potato Chips. If you haven't tried them, go out and get some. If they don't sell them where you live, you can order them online. My personal favorite is the Sweet BBQ! This company was started in Detroit in 1930,and is still the best around.

7) Kowalski Hot dogs. Kowalski means Kowality!

8) Faygo Soda. Their Red Pop is the best. Again, try some if you never have. In Michigan, you are never more than six miles away from water. If you live in Detroit, it is not a far drive to any of the Great Lakes. Take a break from all the bad news and hit the beach. Don't forget to pack the Kowalski's, Better Mades, and Faygo, though.

There are so many other things I could have mentioned. The Great Lakes Invitational is a premier NCAA hockey tournament held at Joe Louis Arena every year between Christmas and New Year. Greektown is always a great place to visit. If history is your thing, try Greenfield Village to learn about Henry Ford.

I do not live in Detroit, but I do hope to end up very near there when hubby and I retire. I do love Detroit. Some of my reasons above may seem superficial or silly maybe, but we need a little laughter now. To those of you that live in Detroit, or anywhere in the Great State of Michigan- keep your heads up! There is plenty to be proud of. Detroit, and all of Michigan, is down right now, but not out.

Culture of Blame

I was always taught that if you want something , you need to work hard, and then maybe, just maybe, you will attain it. It did not matter what the 'it' was. You want to play basketball? There is the ball, and over there is the hoop. Get going. You want that 'A' on your report card? Do your schoolwork. Ask your teachers for help if you need it.

But even with my effort, I understood that there were no guarantees. I might start varsity basketball, I might get that 'A'....or I might not. Someone else might have worked harder, or maybe was just more talented, and deserved the spot on varsity. Just because I studied for Calculus, that doesn't mean that I mastered the concept enough for an 'A'. No guarantees.

It seems more and more every day that people expect things to be handed to them, just because. If you do not get something that you want, well then it must be the fault of someone else, right? It couldn't be that you weren't deserving, that maybe you didn't earn what you wanted?

This video from PJTV delivers this message much better than I ever could. It is long, but worth it. SILENT NO MORE!!!

As for our children, my husband and I agree that they will be taught that they must work for what they want. Working hard will give them a sense of pride and ownership in what they achieve. It will also teach them that sometimes the outcome is not what you wanted or expected, even though you tried your hardest. You can't always be the best, or always get what you want, but you can't get there by giving less than full effort.

B-A-R-R-A-C-K......

And this is why we need more legislators like Rep. Joe Wilson to hold Obama accountable. Obama, or should I say, Obama's teleprompter, gives a good speech. Slick Willy has nothing on this guy. He can string words together well. Why, just listening to him, you would think we will all end up living in Neverland.

It sounds to me like a lot of the American people get it, though. Estimates are there were anywhere between 1.5 and 2 million Americans making their voices heard on Saturday. Now if we can only reach the Obama koolaid drinkers. I think that might be asking too much, but you never know. Miracles do happen.

I am not surprised that our schools are having problems. Our Beloved Leader, Head Comrade in Charge, whatever you want to call him, truly believes in fuzzy math. His campaign , er, I mean health care speech in front of congress proved that beyond a doubt. The public option that he craves will be self-supporting? He would never sign a health care bill that adds another dime to the deficit? When did he see the light on not adding to the deficit?

The only people that truly believe any of the lies that he handed out left and right in that speech are those that voted for him because he was 'cool', or because he wasn't George Bush. They refuse to inform themselves on the issues. They refuse to learn our history or the histories of other nations.

"Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it." - Winston Churchill

The first line from the AP article titled "US Anger at Economy Will Not Derail Obama on Health: WHouse"was, "American anger at the cost of propping up the US economy will not force President Barack Obama to row back on his ambitious health care reform plans, the White House said Sunday."

And another dandy from the same article: "We've had to do some extraordinary things... to rescue the financial system, to ensure that our domestic auto industry didn't go out of business, and to stimulate the economy. That certainly cost a lot of money, but it's something that we had to do," said Gibbs.

Dear, dear Robert. I hate to admit you are right, but I must do so. It is indeed extraordinary that in our society based on capitalism, individualism, and freedom, our leaders would deem it necessary to socialize our auto industry and our financial institutions. But that is what Head Comrade in Charge has done.

We, as the people that he works for, need to keep our voices going loud and strong. We need to let our representatives know that we are informed voters, that we know socialized medicine has not worked in the other countries that have tried it(England, Canada, Cuba, etc.) Let them know that socializing any more of our industries is unacceptable, and dare I say it, Un-American.

Kudos to those that went to D.C. on Saturday. Now we all need to back them up and keep speaking out, because there is a huge disconnect with some of our leaders. They still want to ignore us and what we are telling them.

Obama hears what we are saying, but he just doesn't care. We stand between him and his agenda being realized. Whatever it takes, he will do. We can only hope to get through to his minions in congress. If we can do that, maybe his agenda can be derailed. If not, they will hear a deafening roar on Nov. 2, 2010, and then again in 2012.

This Conservatives Response to The Silver-Tongued Socialist

After listening to the silver-tongued socialist tonight, I briefly wondered how we regular, everyday Americans are ever going to win back our country- our freedoms- after Obama and his minions are finished trampling both at lightning speed. It seems to me to be an insurmountable, formidable task at times. He is a polished, passionate orator. I, on the other hand, am not a gifted speaker, although I would wager my passion about the issues facing our great nation would rival anyone's. nor do I have the national stage to put forth my views on issues, as he does.

With all of this against us, what possibly could motivate us to still speak up, speak out, and try to maintain the freedoms and the country that we love? I cannot answer for anyone but myself, but I have three motivations..... and they all call me Mom. My motivation is my children. I want them to grow up, be happy, and enjoy the freedoms (and yes, the responsibilities) of living in the United States of America. We live in the greatest nation, and I want it to stay that way. We may not have the bully pulpit of the presidency, but that does not mean we should just stand by quietly. We can still let our representatives that work for for us, know by mail, e-mail, or by phone, what we think about issues. And no, unfortunately another one didn't just drink the last bottle dry. News today reveals that we don't have to worry about former Rep. Joe Kennedy trying to fill his late Uncle Ted's swim fins.

He says he can do more good staying right where he is at. And where would that be? He is the president of Citizens Energy Corporation. This is a non-profit that provides free heating oil to the poor. Very heartwarming, isn't it? He really cares about the little people. Yeah, right. His income as the president of this corporation in 2007 was $545,000.

As a newbie senator, he would stand to make somewhere around $165,000. Joey did his adds and takeaways, and noticed there would be $400,000 pay cut if he wanted Uncle Teddy's seat. How exactly do you make $545,000 whilst giving shit away for FREE? I'd like some of that action. It is amazing how these libs can find jobs at nonprofits that pay so well.

A lot of this oil that he has given away has come from his and Cindy Sheehan's best bud, Hugo Chavez. Wonder how it goes around the holiday dinner table when he and brother Robert sit down together? Bobby, Jr. is a green weirdo that wants renewable energy for all, as long as he doesn't have to see the wind turbines around Mecca's Vineyard.

By the way, this is another Kennedy you don't want to get into a vehicle with. It seems young Joe rolled a vehicle in August of 1973, injuring his brother David, and paralyzing Dave's girlfriend, Pam Kelley. Good thing for her there wasn't any water nearby.

A Little Under the Radar, A Lot Alarming

With your co-pay, your vaccination is only $25 today, citizen Zek.

.
I live in a small town, and heard this on the local country music station's morning talk show. I will admit I was busy enough today that I did not get to listen to much news, but the little I did hear did not deal with this subject. They are so worried about the H1N1 virus in Iowa that they have prepared a "Facility Quarantine Order". And no, this is not a joke. Here is the link to the form on the CDC website.

http://www2a.cdc.gov/phlp/docs/Facility%20Quarantine%20Order%20novelflu%20filled%20in%204-30-09.pdf

Are quarantines really going to be necessary with this "epidemic"? Where are the provisions for parents to be with their children during quarantine? Can you request your own doctor for treatment? Lots of questions....

I know that this is a state form, but do you think it is something approved by His Highness? Is it just me, or has this Abomination, I mean administration, begun to eat up our liberties like Clinton went through Big Macs and big interns?

Well, on the bright side, it looks like you get three hots and a cot. I wonder if it will be taxed as income like the handout associated with the 'Cash for Clunkers' program?

J-Summ says it sounds a little like the relocation program a certain segment of Europe's racial and religious population got free one way train tickets for in the 30's.

It doesn't take much imagination to think that things might be starting to play out a little like the plot from Stephen King's novel, 'The Stand.'

Obama Campaign Advisor 2012

I know that 2012 is a long way away, but I think that I would like to apply for this job. I have already thought of the perfect slogan for Obama's re-election campaign.

Death, Servitude, and the Pursuit of Failure

It may scare some people, but so what? Everyone says they want more honesty from their politicians. Well, there is the truth from Obama. In his world everyone is so over all of that "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" thing. Besides, why would you want liberty so that you could just try for happiness. That involves risk. No guarantees. The all-knowing government can take care of everything for you.

His record from his first term is already well on the way to building the platform for this slogan. His Republican opponent would not be able to use the old "He's just not telling the truth about his record" attack.

What do you think? Do you want to throw your hat in for this job? Do you have a good campaign slogan for Obama in 2012?

80's Tunes That Are Relevant Today

80's music is some of the best. I beg to differ. In his book 'Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism', Arthur Brooks details how he found through studies that conservative households give approximately 30% more to charity than liberal households. This in spite of the fact that liberal families earn slightly more on average. He says "Those who support the idea that government should redistribute income are among the least likely to dig in their own wallets to help others".

Conservatives know that government programs are not the answer and are willing to give generously to private programs that can and do help those in need. Please find a cause (or five) that you believe in, and give, give, give.

My family donates to these three worthy groups. We know the money we give is used to help those that need it, and they all have great meaning for us:

1. Wounded Warrior Project- Their mission is "To honor and empower wounded warriors." they provide all kinds of services and direct programs to meet the needs of severely wounded service members. Their most recognizable program is the WWP Backpacks. They are provided to the severely wounded service members as they arrive at military trauma centers. The packs contain items like clothing, calling cards, toiletries, CD player, playing cards- things to make their stay a little more comfortable.

2. Freedom Alliance- The Alliance has three areas of concentration. The Freedom Alliance Scholarship program provides college scholarships to the children of those brave Americans who sacrificed their life, or those that have been permanently disabled, while defending our country. The Support Our Troops program honors service members on the front lines and in hospitals. They hold Troop Appreciation Dinners & events throughout the year. They also provide support to grieving families. The Leadership Academy is a summer camp for high school students age 14-18. It uses some of the fundamental doctrines of military training to instill leadership potential and develop character.

3. Autism Speaks- This organization dedicated to raising funds to research the causes, prevention, treatments, and finding a cure for Autism. They also want to raise public awareness of Autism, and bring hope to those who deal with the hardships of this disorder.

These are only three of the many thousands of deserving charities. I urge everyone to take the time to research and find those that you find worthy, and give them a helping hand.

What big government? Sunday brought the news that Obama and his Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, believe the "public option" is not that important. They would settle for Co-ops.

I am afraid that there are those people out there that will believe the American people have won this battle, and will let down their guard. The co-ops are not a better deal. It seems to me that this is just re-labeling basically the same program and then shoving it on through. They may scrap one small part of the original program, or tinker with this or that idea in it, but my guess is it will still be the same idea. More government involvement in your health care. Come on, people, a load of manure by any other name is still a pile of crap!!!

In the last day or so Obama and his lackeys have backtracked (once again), and said the public option "is still viable". This is because their base (the Looney Left), is not happy, and wants the public option.

Stay focused. Speak out. If we are not heard now, it may be too late.

Operation Coffee Cup 2009

Let me preface all of this this by saying that I was never a big fan of President Reagan when he was in office (I was only eight when he was sworn into office in 1980). I know that he was human and imperfect (we all are). That said, after reading this post you might also believe (like myself), that this man was a great oracle.

In the late 50's and early 60's, the American Medical Association conducted a campaign in opposition to Congressional Democrats plan to extend Social Security to include socialized medicine for the elderly (later known as Medicare). It became known as Operation Coffee Cup because part of the plan involved doctor's wives organizing coffee meetings in order to convince their acquaintances to write Congress opposing the program. In 1961, Reagan recorded the LP "Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine" for the AMA. The organizers of the coffee meetings would use this record as part of their presentation.

I have included the video of this speech. I know it is long, but it is entirely relevant, and worth the listen.

There are many parts of this speech that are noteworthy, but the one that stands out for me is not even from Ronald Reagan. It is this:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." - Norman Thomas (1884-1968) six-time U.S. Presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America.

Scared yet? You should be. But you can still have your say. Can't make it to a Town Hall meeting? Is your Representative or Senator too scared to even hold one? Then write to them. Don't e-mail them. I know it's very un-green, and sooo not planet friendly, but pull out some paper and let them know what you think. E-mail is easy to overlook (they just won't turn on their computer until after the vote), but a mountain of letters from their constituents? Kinda hard to overlook that. Time is short, so pull out your pen, and get ready for Carpal Tunnel to set in (just make sure you see your doctor soon to treat it).

I am including a link to a site that will give you the addresses for those that represent you. When you get there, click on your state. You will need to click on the names of your Senators and Representatives to get to the page that shows their snail mail address.

http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/index.html

Thanks for reading.... now turn off the computer and get to writing.

<

Fed Up Beyond Fed Up!!!!

I have had way beyond enough of all of these Democratic senators and congressmen (and women). The final straw for me came tonight when I saw the video of Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D) answering her cell phone while a citizen was asking her a question. Tracy Miller is an unemployed, uninsured cancer survivor. She had concerns about this "reform", and wanted answers from the representative. While this woman was asking her question- IN THE MIDDLE OF HER QUESTION!!!- Jackson Lee answers her cell phone and has several exchanges with whoever is on the phone.

You HAVE to be kidding me!!! To put it mildly that is rude. These people in Congress work for US. Have at least a little respect for the constituents. We do sign your paychecks. And need I remind you that your pay keeps increasing while a lot of Americans are still losing their jobs?

I am so very tired of no one listening to concerned Americans, more specifically, Democrats not listening to concerned Americans. If that had been any Republican politician, why, I could just hear the histrionics pouring from the mainstream media, and the (ah-hem) news journalists at CNN , MSNBC, and the likes. "Republicans don't care what the average citizen has to say", or "Republicans are heartless, uncaring , and watch out, because they want to have phone records that may or may not be yours under the guise of finding terrorists in the country". Hmmm... at least Republicans didn't set up a site so that Americans could snitch on other Americans that disagree with the administration!!

I am tired of it, I am fed up, but I refuse to be silent anymore!!!
